Project Details
The Senior Graphic Designer is a key member of the Immunization Technical Support Unit (ITSU) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), supporting India’s Universal Immunization Programme (UIP). This role involves conceptualizing, designing, and delivering high-quality visual communication materials to advance routine immunization efforts and the Multi-Year Strategic Plan for Immunization. The Senior Graphic Designer collaborates with government bodies, civil society organizations, and international partners to create impactful publications, operational guidelines, educational tools, and branding materials. By integrating innovative design trends, including interactive content and multimedia storytelling, the role enhances the accessibility and engagement of immunization campaigns. Additionally, the designer supports developing technical and advocacy materials at global platforms, such as the World Health Assembly, while working alongside team members to maintain quality and alignment with MoHFW and JSIPL standards. This position plays a vital role in helping India achieve its immunization goals by driving quality, innovation, and collaboration in public health communication. 
 
Job Summary
The Sr. Graphic Designer is a role responsible for driving the visual communication strategy for national and state-level health initiatives. This position entails developing innovative, impactful, and culturally sensitive communication materials to support public health goals, particularly in immunization and disease prevention. The Sr. Graphic Designer will oversee the creative team, collaborate with government bodies and partners, and ensure the design output reflects the strategic priorities of health programs, delivering measurable impact across diverse platforms and audiences.  
 
Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive visual communication strategy to amplify the reach and impact of national health campaigns and programs.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary creative team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence. 
  • Act as the primary design liaison with government partners, external organizations, and interorganizational teams to align visual outputs with public health objectives.
  • Shape the creative vision for IEC materials, ensuring alignment with the overarching goals of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and associated programs.
  • Spearhead the creation of diverse communication materials, including national guidelines, illustrated educational tools, branding assets, and mass media content.
  • Oversee the development of creative assets for critical health initiatives like Intensified Mission Indradhanush, Measles Rubella campaigns, Zero-Dose interventions, etc. 
  • Introduce and implement new content formats (e.g., animations, interactive presentations, video content) to enhance engagement and accessibility.
  • Lead the design of logos and branding for health platforms, including flagship initiatives of the Immunization Division, MoHFW. 
  • Coordinate multiple, high-stakes design projects with tight deadlines, ensuring timely and quality outputs.
  • Establish and enforce design standards to maintain consistency and quality across all deliverables.
  • Work seamlessly with cross-functional teams across various organizations and ministries to integrate visual content into broader communication strategies.
  • Design and implement capacity building programs for new designers and cross-functional team members, enhancing design capacity across projects. 
  • Foster knowledge transfer and skill development, enabling teams to independently create high-quality visual assets. 
  • Incorporate user feedback and analytics to continuously improve the effectiveness of communication materials.
  • Any other work assigned by the supervisor.    
Qualification and Skills
JSI India seeks a results-oriented individual with the ability to produce and lead teams in producing high quality deliverables, managing multiple concurrent tasks, and meet tight deadlines with attention to detail. The successful candidate is required to have:
  • Master’s degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Visual Communication, or a related field (or equivalent experience) from a premier institute.  
  • At least 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in graphic design, including team management and strategic roles. 
  • Significant experience designing for public health or government-led programs, with a focus on immunization, health, or similar fields. 
  • Proven ability to handle national and state-level initiatives, managing large-scale and impactful creative deliverables (e.g., operational guidelines). 
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), animation tools (e.g., After Effects), presentation software and print media (newsletters, posters, guidelines). 
  • Familiarity with advanced design tools and emerging technologies to create interactive and accessible content. 
  • Ability to conceptualize and execute complex visual strategies aligned with program goals.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to manage teams and build effective partnerships with diverse stakeholders. 
  • Outstanding ability to translate complex public health information into engaging visual formats.
  • Proven track record of thriving in fast-paced, high-pressure environments with changing priorities.
  • Recognition for exceptional design contributions (e.g., awards, notable publications).
  • Experience working with international organizations and government bodies. 
  • Passion for public health and commitment to making a tangible impact through design.
