About the Program
Jhpiego is implementing a multi-state initiative to strengthen the quality of Antenatal Care (ANC) services in collaboration with state governments. The program focuses on improving maternal and newborn health outcomes by addressing key gaps in service delivery. The intervention adopts a comprehensive approach built on four core pillars: competency strengthening of healthcare providers, ensuring availability of essential commodities, promoting continuity of care across the pregnancy continuum, and enhancing community engagement.
Through targeted capacity building, supportive supervision, digital innovations, and system strengthening, the program aims to improve early identification and management of high-risk pregnancies, increase adherence to ANC protocols, and enhance service utilization.
The goal is to reduce low birth weight, prevent avoidable maternal deaths, and improve overall quality of care at public health facilities.
About the Position
Jhpiego is hiring for the position of State Program Officer based at Chandigarh Punjab. This position will be responsible for providing technical, functional and operational support towards improving the Ante Natal care. S/he will work closely with the government officials and other stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of Project. This position will report to National
Program Manager.
Roles and Responsibilities
1. Help monitor and supervise timely implementation of program activities in the intervention districts as per the agreed annual program work plan.
2. Coordinate with State Program Manager and concerned staff working on this program (M& E, Technical, procurement etc) minutely on progress and smooth roll-out of planned activities.
3. As per programmatic need, supervise and guide program Officers to achieve the goal of Born Healthy program in the assigned district.
4. Develop and produce documents, program related reports and presentations according to the program and Jhpiego guidelines for internal program needs and for external dissemination.
5. Support State Program Manager in day-to-day operations and management of activities for program.
6. Liaise and establish a good working relationship with concerned government officials in the State. Coordinate and collaborate with government officials, other stakeholders, and Jhpiego staff for effective implementation.
7. Coordinate with State M&E team and Field staff to review the status of proper collection, collation, analysis and dissemination of the program data.
8. Facilitate project activities including workshop planning, logistics planning and management, travel arrangements and other activity support to ensure smooth implementation.
9. Contribute in the development of technical content required for the program.
Qualifications and Experience
• MBBS /AYUSH/BDS/Nursing with respective council registration with Post Graduate Degree in Public Health.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience of working with public health programs, especially in MNH is desirable
• Experience of working with the Director Public Health / National Health Mission at the project or State level is desirable.
• Experience of conducting training, managing programs, and providing clinical support to public health workers.
• Knowledge of the health sector and Health and wellness centers is essential
• Technical knowledge and field experience in Maternal Health program specially Ante Natal Care
• Familiarity with the Indian health system, key stakeholders, and relevant government policies/strategies particularly National
Rural Health Mission would be advantageous.
Skills and Competencies
• Experience and demonstrated ability in working with government’s program and systems , Maternal Health would be advantageous.
• Strong written and oral communication skills in English and Hindi.
• Ability to develop productive working relationships with other agencies, stakeholders and other organizations including government counterparts.
• Technically proficient with skills required for the assigned task.
• Ability to develop productive working relationships with other agencies and stakeholders
• Ability to handle a variety of assignments under pressure of deadlines.
• Willingness and flexibility to work on a wide range of tasks
• Microsoft Office computer skills, proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to travel extensively up to 50% of his/her time
