John Snow India Private Limited (JSIPL), a subsidiary of JSI Research and Training Institute, a 501(c)(3) not-forprofit corporation registered in the state of Massachusetts, USA, is a leading public health organization dedicated to improving the health of individuals and communities across the country. We develop and implement high-impact, sustainable, and locally-owned public health initiatives. A robust interface and relationships with the government, private sector, and civil society allow us to convene and collaborate, innovate, inform policy, and develop sustainable & scalable models of programs. Over the years, JSIPL has become a recognized leader for its innovative approaches in reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health (RMNCH), Immunization, urban health, Tuberculosis, nutrition, supply chain management, climate change, and health system strengthening.
 
JOB SUMMARY  
JSIPL is seeking an experienced, strategic, and relationship-oriented Director – Strategic Partnerships and Business Development to lead the organization’s efforts to diversify funding sources, expand strategic partnerships, and strengthen its business development pipeline. Reporting to the Managing Director, the Director will be responsible for identifying and advancing opportunities with bilateral and multilateral agencies, foundations, philanthropic organizations, private sector partners, and other key stakeholders, while strengthening JSIPL’s positioning within the development ecosystem.
 
The incumbent will lead the full business development lifecycle, including donor intelligence, strategic outreach, partnership cultivation, opportunity identification, capture planning, and proposal development. Working closely with the Managing Director, senior leadership, technical teams, and external partners, s/he will build and manage high-value relationships, strategic collaborations, represent JSIPL in external forums, and provide leadership and oversight of business development. This is a senior position and the incumbent will be part of the Senior Management team at JSIPL. Please note this is not a strategy-only role; it requires a handson approach, actively driving opportunity development, donor outreach, partnership cultivation, and end-toend proposal development to support JSIPL’s fundraising and long-term sustainability.    
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
 
1. Business Development Strategy, Pipeline & Market Intelligence
  • Lead development and implementation of JSIPL’s business development strategy in alignment with organizational priorities and long-term objectives.
  • Track donor landscape, funding trends, and emerging thematic opportunities across bilateral, multilateral, philanthropic, and private sector actors.
  • Translate market intelligence into actionable pursuit strategies, positioning plans, and go/no-go recommendations.  
  • Strengthen institutional positioning through compelling capability narratives, pitch decks, and donorfacing materials.  
2. Donor Engagement and Relationship Management  
  • Establish, strengthen, and manage relationships with donors and other strategic stakeholders.
  • Lead proactive outreach and engagement efforts to expand and diversify JSIPL’s donor base.
  • Develop and implement engagement strategies for priority donors and partners, ensuring sustained relationship management and follow-up.
3. Opportunity Development and Proposal Leadership
  • Lead end-to-end opportunity lifecycle with support from the team: identification, capture planning, positioning, and pursuit strategy.  
  • Actively drive development of concept notes, proposals, and presentations with high-quality, donorready outputs.  
  • Engage with technical, finance, and program teams to shape win themes, value propositions, and solution design.  
  • Ensure responsiveness, competitiveness, and alignment of all submissions with donor expectations.  
4. Strategic Partnerships, Consortia & Alliance Building
  • Identify, and formalize strategic partnerships with NGOs, private sector, academia, and partners.  
  • Lead consortium formation for large-scale funding opportunities, including partner identification and role definition.  
  • Negotiate partnership frameworks, teaming agreements, and collaboration structures.  
  • Strengthen JSIPL’s positioning through high-value alliances that open new funding pathways.  
5. External Positioning, Visibility & Thought Leadership
  • Strengthen JSIPL’s visibility and positioning within the global and national development ecosystem.  
  • Identify and leverage strategic platforms, conferences, and networks to showcase JSIPL’s expertise.  
  • Support dissemination of organizational evidence, innovations, and programmatic learning to donors.  
  • Build JSIPL’s reputation as a credible, solutions-oriented implementation and technical partner.  
6. Team Leadership, Systems & Internal Coordination
  • Provide hands-on leadership to the Business Development and Partnerships team and cross-functional coordination across technical, finance, communications, and leadership teams..  
  • Strengthen systems for pipeline tracking, donor intelligence, and proposal workflows.  
  • Monitor progression of all active opportunities and ensure timely internal and external follow-ups.  
  • Brief JSIPL leadership on pipeline health, risks, emerging opportunities, and strategic decisions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
  • Master’s degree in International Development, Business Administration, Public Health/Health Administration, Public Policy, Social Sciences, Management, or a related field.  
  • Minimum 15-18 years of progressively responsible experience in business development, strategic partnerships, donor engagement, fundraising, or organizational growth within the international development, public health, or social impact sectors. Strong experience of Public health and development sector preferred. 
  • Demonstrated track record of cultivating and securing partnerships and funding opportunities with bilateral and multilateral agencies, philanthropic foundations, corporate foundations, CSR initiatives, private sector entities, and other development partners.
  • Strong understanding of the development financing landscape in India and globally, including emerging donor priorities, funding mechanisms, partnership models, and trends in public health and development.
  • Established professional networks and relationships across donor agencies, foundations, development partners, private sector organizations, academic institutions, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify opportunities, navigate complexity, and drive organizational growth.
