About the Assignment:
Alliance India is implementing a focused intervention in Mumbai to strengthen HIV prevention and care outcomes in line with NACP-V (2021–2026) and national goals of achieving 95–95–95.
 
Reporting & Coordination
  • Reports to: Team Lead - Mumbai
  • Will coordinate with:
  1. MDACS, ICTCs, DSRCs, CSCs, ART Centres
  2. Private Medical Practitioners
  3. Private Hospitals & Nursing Homes
  4. Diagnostic laboratories, pharmacies
  5. Professional Medical Associations
  6. Alliance India teams, and community-based organizations.
Purpose of the Assignment:
The Private Sector Engagement Coordinator will lead Alliance India’s efforts to strengthen engagement of private healthcare providers in HIV prevention, testing, treatment, care, and reporting systems. The position will establish and strengthen partnerships with private practitioners, hospitals, laboratories, and pharmacies to improve HIV case identification, linkage to care, retention, viral suppression, and integration of private sector services within the national HIV response framework.
 
Key Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for the following:
  • Map and maintain a database of private healthcare providers, hospitals, nursing homes, laboratories, and pharmacies across Mumbai.
  • Identify and engage high-volume private practitioners and healthcare facilities serving populations at risk of HIV infection.
  • Establish and strengthen public-private partnership (PPP) mechanisms to improve HIV testing, treatment, and referral pathways.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with physicians, specialists, hospital administrators, laboratory managers, and pharmacy networks.
  • Facilitate integration of private healthcare providers into national HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and reporting systems.
  • Conduct orientation sessions and capacity-building programs on HIV Testing Guidelines, ART Guidelines, Advanced Disease Management (ADM), Index Testing Services (ITS), PrEP, STI management, and viral load monitoring.
  • Promote routine HIV screening and risk-based HIV testing within private healthcare settings.
  • Strengthen referral systems between private healthcare providers and ICTCs, ART Centres, CSCs, DSRCs, and community-based services.
  • Support timely linkage of individuals diagnosed with HIV in private settings to government-supported ART services.
  • Facilitate referrals for HIV testing, ART initiation, viral load testing, TB screening, Advanced Disease Management services, and PrEP services where applicable.
  • Monitor referral completion and treatment linkage outcomes from private healthcare facilities.
  • Support private healthcare providers in understanding and complying with national HIV reporting requirements.
  • Promote adoption of standard treatment protocols and evidence-based HIV care practices among private providers.
  • Analyse private sector engagement data and identify opportunities to improve HIV case finding and treatment outcomes.
  • Conduct supportive supervision visits and regular follow-up with engaged private facilities.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards tracking provider engagement, testing outcomes, HIV-positive case identification, ART linkages, and viral suppression outcomes where available.
  • Coordinate with MDACS, NACO-supported facilities, and professional associations to strengthen private sector participation in HIV programs.
  • Document best practices, innovations, success stories, and lessons learned from private sector engagement activities.
  • Support preparation of technical reports, presentations, review documents, and donor updates.
  • Perform any other responsibilities assigned by the Team Lead – Mumbai or Alliance India.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
 
Qualifications
  • Essential: MBBS degree from a recognized institution.
  • Preferred: DPH, MPH, MBA (Health Management), or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in public health, healthcare management, HIV/AIDS programs, or health systems strengthening.
  • Experience working with private healthcare providers, hospitals, professional associations, or healthcare networks.
  • Experience in HIV/AIDS, STI, TB, or public health programs preferred.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong understanding of national HIV/AIDS policies, guidelines, and service delivery models.
  • Knowledge of ART, HIV testing services, PrEP, STI management, and Advanced Disease Management.
  • Excellent networking, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
  • Experience in conducting trainings and technical capacity-building sessions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to engage effectively with senior clinicians and hospital administrators.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, reporting, dashboards, and data management tools.
  • Commitment to rights-based, stigma-free, and client-centred HIV services.
The position requires a strong commitment to HIV/AIDS and Sexual and Reproductive health and civil society initiatives in India and a demonstrated interest in engaging with relevant issues.
