About Calcutta Foundation
Calcutta Foundation, through its flagship program Apni Kutir, aims to support women at every stage of their journey towards financial independence through three core verticals: skilling & literacy, individual development, and community building. With 24 centres currently operating across West Bengal, Rajasthan, Bihar, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh, the Foundation provides skill development training such as tailoring, beauty and wellness, digital literacy, and life skills to young girls and women. Our holistic, 360-degree approach ensures women receive not just skills but also guidance, confidence, and emotional support to build sustainable livelihoods.

Female Local Candidates
In alignment with our commitment to providing a secure and supportive environment for women, this position is open to local female candidates only. Our goal is to maintain an all-female team to best serve the needs of the Apni Kutir community.

Role Overview
The Mehendi Trainer delivers skilled, structured training in mehendi (henna) art to women and girls enrolled at the Apni Kutir centre. Mehendi is a deeply culturally rooted craft with strong earning potential — particularly in Maharashtra's wedding, festival, and celebration economy. The Trainer helps learners develop artistic proficiency across a range of mehendi styles and build the confidence and professionalism to convert their skills into income, whether through salon employment, home visits, or participation in local markets and events.

Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver daily mehendi training sessions covering core techniques including Arabic, Rajasthani, and contemporary bridal mehendi, as well as cone-making and natural henna preparation.
Progress learners from foundational designs to advanced bridal and festive patterns aligned with local market demand.
Train students in hygiene, skin safety, natural henna preparation, and professional client interaction.
Help learners build a personal portfolio of their mehendi work to support self-promotion and placement.
Advise students on pricing, materials sourcing, and how to approach freelance, home-visit, and event-based work as a mehendi artist.
Maintain training materials and supplies in good order; report replenishment needs promptly.
Track individual student progress and maintain attendance and assessment records.
Coordinate with the Centre Coordinator and Placement Officer to support earning linkages for mehendi graduates.
Participate in demonstrations, exhibitions, local fairs, and festive events organized by the centre to provide students with live practice opportunities.

Key Requirements
Demonstrated artistry and expertise in mehendi — proficiency in multiple styles (Arabic, Rajasthani, bridal) is essential.
Fluency in Marathi is essential; working knowledge of Hindi is required.
Ability to teach creative and technical skills to beginners in a structured, patient, and encouraging manner.
Knowledge of natural henna preparation, skin safety, and professional practices.
Basic record-keeping skills.

Qualifications
Demonstrated professional competency in mehendi artistry; a formal certificate (NSDC or equivalent) is preferred but not mandatory if substantiated by a strong portfolio.
2+ years of experience as a professional mehendi artist, ideally with experience training others.
Prior teaching experience is preferred but not mandatory.

How to Apply
