Background
The GIS Lead will drive the geospatial backbone of Hyderabad's city-wide One Health Wet Market Surveillance Platform — mapping and geo-tagging approximately 5,000 wet market points and building the GIS-enabled risk atlas that underpins risk stratification and decision-support for GHMC-MSU.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead city-wide wet market mapping and geo-tagging of approximately 3,000 wet market points, covering all identified Tier-1, Tier-2, and Tier-3 wet market hubs, across all six zones.
• Develop the GIS-enabled risk atlas and risk-layer datasets, including ward- and zone-wise market mapping and six specialized maps per zone plotting all market tiers alongside proximity to Urban Health and Wellness Centres (U-HWCs) and Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs).
• Build geo-spatial dashboards and decision-support tools, and establish government integration mechanisms for GHMC-MSU use.
• Support risk stratification and identification of high-risk intervention sites in coordination with the Team Lead and MEL Lead.
• Ensure geo-tagged and spatial data are integrated with the Project MIS and digital risk assessment tools (KOBO Toolbox).
• Produce GIS-ready datasets and spatial maps as milestone deliverables, and support institutionalization of GIS tools and SOPs within GHMC-MSU for long-term use.
Required Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor's/Master's degree in Geoinformatics, Geography, Urban Planning, GIS, or a related field.
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in GIS mapping, spatial analysis, and dashboard development, ideally within public health, urban planning, or municipal governance contexts.
• Hands-on experience with GIS software (e.g., QGIS/ArcGIS), mobile geo-tagging tools, and dashboard/visualization platforms.
• Experience working with municipal/government data systems (e.g., GHMC) preferred.
Key Competencies & Skills
• Strong technical proficiency in GIS mapping, geo-tagging, and spatial risk-layer development.
• Ability to translate spatial data into decision-support tools for government stakeholders.
• Strong attention to data accuracy and documentation.
• Collaborative, field-oriented work style.
Key Deliverables / Performance Indicators
• Geo-referenced wet market inventory covering ~3,000 points across all tiers.
• GIS-enabled risk atlas and risk-layer dataset with zone-wise spatial maps.
• Geo-spatial dashboards and decision-support tools integrated with GHMC-MSU systems.
