Level of Contact with Substance abusers: 1 – (Direct contact with Substance abusers)

Project Overview:
Plan India will support to create awareness and educate people about the ill-effects of substance abuse on the individual, the family, workplace and the society at large and reduce stigmatization of and discrimination against groups and individual’s dependent on drugs. To integrate them back into the society. Provide holistic community-based services for the identification, motivation, counseling, de-addiction, aftercare and rehabilitation for the Whole Person Recovery (WPR) of addicts. Sports /recreation will be anchored as a core strategy to engage and educated affected population. This will serve as a major approach for mental wellbeing and social cohesion.
Job Summary :
The Counsellor-Jivanam, will primarily be responsible for providing screening and counselling services to substance abusers.
Role and Responsibilities :
1. Counselling Services:
• Conduct individual and group counselling sessions for substance abusers.
• Facilitate counselling for beneficiaries with substance use disorders to encourage early medical intervention and link them with appropriate de-addiction and rehabilitation services.
• Provide family counselling to sensitise family members, address stigma, and strengthen their support for the beneficiary’s recovery and reintegration.
• Facilitate sports and recreational activities to promote social inclusion, positive peer engagement, and recovery from drug abuse.
• Conduct mental health screening and provide appropriate counselling, psychosocial support, and referrals to specialised services, as required.
• Conduct outreach activities to educate communities about substance abusers.
• Connect clients to rehabilitation centres, support groups, and vocational training.
• Organise & actively engage in demand generation activities.
2. Clinical Services:
• Mobilize shortlisted beneficiaries who use drugs to undergo routine health check-ups and appropriate health screenings to identify and address their health needs.
• Assist Medical practitioner in provisioning of clinical services.
3. Community Engagement:
• Engage with the ORWs, ASHAs, ANMs to build trust and promote the utilization of healthcare services at block level.
• Enhance the usage of IEC materials within the community with support of Centre manager.
4. Collaboration with Stakeholders:
• Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, NGOs, government agencies, and community-based organizations involved in PWID/ HIV/AIDS prevention and care.
• Participate in the meetings i.e.- AAA, CHC, PHC level to create the awareness.
• Participate on the special days organize by local govt i.e.- International day against drugs, World AIDs day, World Hepatitis Day, World mental health day etc.
5. Capacity Building:
• Participate in training programs to enhance self-counselling skills.
• Provide support and Orientation to outreach workers on community specific issues and counselling techniques.

• Reporting to Centre Manager
Qualification and Remuneration:
• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or a related field.
• 2–3 years of relevant experience in counselling and psychosocial support, preferably in substance abuse/de-addiction, mental health, HIV/AIDS, or community-based programmes.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to work in small teams and flexible approaches of working.
