Project: Integrating Community Detection and Primary Care Response to address Heat-Related Health Risks among Women and Adolescent Girls in Rural Wardha, Maharashtra

CEHAT, the Centre for Enquiry into Health and Allied Themes, is looking for a motivated researcher to join its ICMR-supported research project on heat-related health risks among women and adolescent girls in rural Wardha, Maharashtra.
The study will examine patterns of heat exposure and heat-related health risks among women and adolescent girls, including the role of gendered work and living conditions. It will also assess the feasibility of an ASHA-led approach for early identification and referral of heat-related health concerns through routine community health contacts, with clinical assessment and referral through the primary healthcare system. The study will be implemented in collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (MGIMS), Sewagram.
Job Description
Roles and responsibilities:
• Support literature reviews, development and refinement of the study protocol, research tools and project documentation.
• Support development, pilot-testing and refinement of qualitative guides, ASHA screening tools and other study tools.
• Contribute to qualitative and quantitative data collection, including interviews, focus group discussions and field-based research activities.
• Support documentation and analysis of individual heat-exposure circumstances, ASHA screening, referral and PHC assessment data, and meteorological information.
• Coordinate with the CEHAT research team, MGIMS Department of Community Medicine and field team for research implementation.
• Support training and orientation of field investigators and, as required, ASHAs and health-system personnel on study procedures and documentation.
• Assist with transcription, translation, coding, data cleaning and qualitative/quantitative data analysis.
• Support field visits to Wardha and routine data-quality checks.
• Contribute to project reports, research papers, presentations, toolkit development and other dissemination outputs.
Essential Skills
• Understanding of public health, climate change and health, gender and health, social determinants of health and primary healthcare.
• Willingness to undertake fieldwork and travel to Sewagram, Wardha
• Knowledge of qualitative and/or mixed-methods research.
• Experience or demonstrated ability in conducting interviews and/or focus group discussions.
• Good written and oral communication and report-writing skills.
• Good organisational and coordination skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; knowledge of SPSS and/or qualitative data analysis software will be an advantage.
• Proficiency in Marathi (spoken and written) and English.
Qualification and Experience
• Postgraduate degree in Public Health, Social Work, Social Sciences, Gender Studies or a related field.
• 2–4 years of relevant experience in social science/public health research.
• Prior experience working on climate change and health/climate-health issues will be added advantage
• Experience in community-based, qualitative, implementation or health-systems research will be an advantage.
Remuneration: Will be commensurate with qualifications and experience
