Project: Integrating Community Detection and Primary Care Response to address Heat-Related Health Risks among Women and Adolescent Girls in Rural Wardha, Maharashtra

Location: MGIMS, Sewagram, Wardha – stationed, with travel to RHTC catchment villages
CEHAT, the Centre for Enquiry into Health and Allied Themes, is looking for a researcher to be stationed at Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (MGIMS), Sewagram, for its ICMR-supported research project on heat-related health risks among women and adolescent girls in rural Wardha, Maharashtra.
The study will examine patterns of heat exposure and heat-related health risks among women and adolescent girls and assess the feasibility of an ASHA-led approach for early identification and referral of heat-related health concerns through routine community health contacts. The study will be implemented in rural communities in collaboration with MGIMS.
Job Description
Roles and responsibilities:
• Coordinate day-to-day field implementation and travel to RHTC catchment villages.
• Coordinate with MGIMS, RHTC teams, PHCs, ASHAs and the CEHAT research team for study implementation.
• Support training, orientation and handholding of field investigators and ASHAs on study tools, screening, referral and documentation procedures.
• Conduct and support qualitative data collection, including interviews and focus group discussions with women, adolescent girls, ASHAs and health-system stakeholders.
• Support implementation of the ASHA screening component and documentation of screening and referral activities.
• Coordinate with ASHAs, RHTC personnel and PHC staff to track referrals, completion of PHC clinical assessment and further referral where required.
• Undertake routine field-level data-quality checks and maintain field records and documentation.
• Support transcription, translation, coding and preliminary analysis of qualitative data.
• Contribute to field notes, project reports and regular updates to the Mumbai research team.
• Undertake regular field travel within the study area.
Essential Skills
• Understanding of public health, climate change and health, gender and health and community health.
• Basic knowledge of qualitative research and experience in interviews/FGDs will be an advantage.
• Ability to undertake community-based fieldwork and coordinate with ASHAs and health-system personnel.
• Good communication, documentation and organisational skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Fluency in Marathi (spoken and written) and working proficiency in English.
• Willingness to be stationed at Sewagram, Wardha, and travel to RHTC catchment villages.
Qualification and Experience
• Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) preferred; candidates with a postgraduate degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Gender Studies or a related field may also apply.
• 1–2 years of relevant experience in social research, public health, community-based research or field research.
• Prior experience working on climate change and health/climate-health issues will be added advantage
• Experience working with community health workers or in health-system/community-based research will be an advantage.
Remuneration: Will be commensurate with qualifications and experience
