Gyan Seva Bharti Sansthan (GSBS) is a non-profit, voluntary development organization working since last 31 Years in Supaul and Darbhanga districts of Bihar for the socio-economic empowerment of marginalized and vulnerable communities. The organization is committed to promoting inclusive development through community-based interventions that improve access to education, health services, sustainable livelihoods, women empowerment, and social protection.
Since its inception, GSBS has been actively working in rural and underserved areas, which are highly flood affected to address issues affecting women, children, and disadvantaged households. The organization implements community-driven programs focusing on women empowerment, digital and financial literacy, child protection, health and nutrition, disaster resilience, and livelihood promotion. Through participatory approaches, GSBS mobilizes communities, strengthens local institutions, and builds the capacity of women and youth to become agents of positive change in their villages.

Roles and Responsibilities of Project Accountant

Project: Empowering Rural Women through Digital Financial Literacy and Financial Inclusion in Bihar
The Project Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial operations of the project and ensuring transparency, accountability, and compliance with organizational and donor financial guidelines. The Project Accountant will support efficient utilization of project funds for activities related to digital and financial literacy centres.
1. Financial Management and Accounting
• Maintain proper books of accounts for the project in accordance with organizational policies and donor requirements.
• Record all financial transactions related to project activities such as training programs, meetings, travel, and operational expenses.
• Ensure timely preparation of vouchers, receipts, and supporting financial documents.
2. Budget Monitoring and Control
• Assist in preparing the project budget and financial plans.
• Monitor expenditure against the approved budget and ensure that spending remains within allocated limits.
• Provide regular updates to the Project Coordinator on financial utilization and budget status.
3. Fund Management
• Manage project funds and ensure proper utilization for approved activities.
• Process payments to staff, trainers, vendors, and service providers as per project guidelines.
• Ensure timely disbursement of payments related to training activities and operational expenses.
4. Financial Reporting
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for the project management and donor agencies.
• Maintain financial statements, expenditure reports, and fund utilization certificates.
• Support preparation of financial reports required for project reviews and evaluations.
5. Documentation and Record Keeping
• Maintain all financial records such as cash books, bank books, vouchers, invoices, and bills.
• Ensure proper filing and safe storage of financial documents for audit and verification.
• Maintain updated records of project assets and inventory at the literacy centres.
6. Compliance and Audit Support
• Ensure compliance with donor financial guidelines and statutory requirements.
• Assist in internal and external audits by providing required financial documents and explanations.
• Ensure that financial transactions are transparent and properly authorized.
7. Banking and Reconciliation
• Manage project bank accounts and ensure proper financial transactions through banks.
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliation statements.
• Monitor digital transactions related to project expenses and payments.
8. Administrative and Procurement Support
• Support procurement processes for project materials such as computers, training equipment, and stationery.
• Ensure procurement procedures follow organizational policies and maintain proper documentation.
• Coordinate with the project team for logistics and financial planning of activities.
