ROLE REQUIREMENT
The Digital and Communication Officer will work closely with the Communications and Programme teams to strengthen the organization’s digital presence, amplify Programme visibility, engage supporters and donors, and ensure high-quality documentation of campaigns and interventions. The role involves developing compelling content, managing multi-channel communication campaigns, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and using analytics to improve outreach and engagement continuously.
This position will report to the Campaign & Advocacy Lead, Odisha, and will work closely with the Social Media Strategist based in Delhi to ensure alignment of state-level and national-level digital strategies.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Digital Communication & Campaign Management
• Develop and implement campaign-specific digital engagement strategies aligned with organizational goals.
• Prepare monthly content calendars and ensure the timely dissemination of content.
• Lead day-to-day campaign management and ensure effective and timely delivery of outputs.
• Innovate new and creative approaches to engage supporters, donors, and partners online.
• Provide handholding support to SMAOs (District-level Social Media Advocacy Officers) in all social media campaigns.
B. Content Creation & Storytelling
• Write, edit, and produce engaging content including supporter emails, social media posts, advertisements, newsletters, reports, and multimedia materials.
• Develop compelling stories, case studies, and impact narratives from field programmes.
• Support the design and production of print and digital communication materials (Posters, Banners, brochures, IEC materials, etc.).
• Ensure consistency in messaging, tone, and branding across all platforms.
• Provide handholding support to SMAOs in the content creation
C. Media & Partner Coordination
• Coordinate with internal teams to gather regular updates on programmes, campaigns, and interventions.
• Manage relationships with creative agencies, consultants, and media partners, including briefing, supervision, and quality assurance.
• Collaborate with multiple stakeholders and partners to ensure cohesive communication and outreach efforts.
D. Database & Documentation Management
• Manage and maintain the database of all District and State Sangathan details.
• Handle the storage and organisation of photos, videos, and stories of all our work in Odisha, categorise them themewise.
• Ensure proper documentation and archiving of all campaign-related photos and videos.
• Provide troubleshooting support for digital documentation systems.
E. Capacity Building & Field Mentorship
• Travel to the field every month (10 - 12 days) to train, mentor, and build team members’ digital capacity.
• Capture on-ground evidence/ case studies/ stories during field work.
• Provide ongoing guidance and support to strengthen local teams’ ability to document, manage, and disseminate digital content effectively.
F. Analytics, Reporting & Improvement
• Track digital performance at the state and district metrics and analyse campaign effectiveness using analytics tools.
• Generate periodic reports on engagement, reach, and impact.
• Recommend improvements based on insights and feedback.
• Monitor audience segmentation and refine targeting strategies for better outcomes.
• Support preparation and tracking of communication plans, timelines, and budgets.
• Undertake any other communication-related tasks assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
• Support other digital intervention initiatives and other programmes as required.
DESIRED SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Mass Media, Journalism, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field
Experience
• 2–5 years of relevant experience in digital communications, content development, and campaign management
• Experience in preparing communication collaterals, social media content, and reports
• Prior experience in the development/NGO/social sector will be an advantage
Skills & Competencies
• Good writing, editing, and storytelling skills
• Translation Skills (English/ Odia/English)
• Knowledge of digital content platforms, media ecosystems, and current digital trends
• Proficiency in digital analytics and performance tracking tools
• Familiarity with tools such as Canva, Photoshop, Google Analytics, basic HTML, and other digital design/editing software
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Strong coordination and stakeholder management skills
• Attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
• Openness to learning new tools, technologies, and communication approaches
