Position Title: Psychologist - Adolescent Health Programme

Reporting To: Programme Manager

Location: Cluster / State Level with hybrid online and field-based support

Number of Positions: 12

Coverage: Approximately 5 districts per Psychologist.

Role Summary

The Psychologist will lead the mental health and emotional wellbeing component of the Adolescent Counselling & Integrated School Health Programme. The role focuses on screening, counselling, emotional support, tele-consultation, referral management, and mental health awareness for adolescents in schools and communities.

The psychologist will support adolescents identified through screening and counselling pathways and provide structured interventions, tele-consultations, and referrals where required.

Key Responsibilities

1. Adolescent Mental Health Screening
Support identification of students requiring emotional or psychological support.
Review screening and referral cases from:
Public Health Nurses
School sessions
Community camps
Teachers and parents

2. Counselling & Psychological Support
Conduct:
Individual counselling sessions
Group counselling sessions
Tele-counselling consultations
Provide emotional support for:
Stress and anxiety
Exam pressure
Behavioural concerns
Peer and family issues
Self-esteem and confidence challenges
Screen addiction and digital wellbeing

3. Referral Management
Identify high-risk adolescents requiring advanced psychiatric or specialist care.
Coordinate referrals with psychiatrists and healthcare facilities when needed.
Maintain confidential counselling records and follow-up mechanisms.

4. School Mental Health Sessions
Conduct awareness sessions on:
Emotional wellbeing
Stress management
Bullying prevention
Healthy relationships
Life skills and resilience
Support teacher orientation for early identification of mental health concerns.

5. Capacity Building & Training
Train Public Health Nurses and school staff on:
Psychological first aid
Basic mental health screening
Adolescent-friendly communication
Referral red flags

6. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain confidential counselling documentation and session reports.
Track:
Number of counselling sessions
Referral cases
Tele-consultations
Improvement follow-ups
Submit monthly mental health programme reports.

7. Ethical & Safeguarding Compliance
Ensure confidentiality and child-safe counselling practices.
Follow consent and safeguarding protocols for minors.
Adhere to programme ethical guidelines and reporting standards.

Required Qualifications
Master's Degree in:
Clinical Psychology
Counselling Psychology
Applied Psychology
RCI registration preferred

Experience
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in counselling, adolescent mental health, school counselling, or community mental health programmes.
Experience with tele-counselling and school-based interventions preferred.

Preferred Experience
NGO/public health programme experience
Experience in rural or underserved settings
