CONTEXTUAL SUMMARY OF THE COMPLIANCE DEPARTMENT AT HI :
HI India currently runs programs with activities focused on health & rehabilitation, disaster risk reduction, promoting disability rights, socio-economic development and/or poverty graduation. In 2024, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India and Nepal program have merged with the big “South Asia” program. The objective of the mission is to introduce one team one reason approach across program.
 
At Humanity & Inclusion (HI), Compliance Framework and its effective implementation is an organizational accountability. The Framework established with an aim to ensure country specific regulatory Compliances, donor specific contractual obligations, Internal control and organizational Risk management processes. 
             
OBJECTIVE OF THE SERVICE:
The objective of this assignment is to support the Internal Audit function of Handicap International (HI) by conducting a detailed review of financial transactions, supporting documents, bills, vouchers, and related records of HI India Programme and its implementing partners for the period January 2024–June 2026. The assignment aims to enhance financial compliance, identify control weaknesses, verify adherence to organizational policies and donor requirements, and support the completion of the internal audit process. The entire assignment is a remote work, coordinated from HI Delhi office under the guidance and supervision of Country Compliance Manager.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE INTERNAL AUDITOR (INTERN):
 
Under the direct supervision of the Country Compliance Manager, the Internal Audit Intern shall:
  • Review financial transactions, bills, vouchers, and supporting documentation of HI India Programme and PNGOs.
  • Verify the completeness, accuracy, validity, and compliance of expenditures with organizational policies, procedures, and donor requirements.
  • Check supporting documents against accounting records and audit sampling plans.
  • Identify exceptions, discrepancies, unsupported expenditures, and control weaknesses.
  • Maintain proper audit working papers and supporting evidence.
  • Prepare audit observations and communicate findings to the supervisor after completion of the task.
  • Ensure confidentiality and security of all financial and organizational information accessed during the assignment.
  • Perform any other audit-related tasks assigned by Country Compliance Manager within scope of the assignment.
DELIVERABLES:
  • Completed review of assigned audit samples and supporting documents.
  • An audit report describing the summary of audit findings identified during the review along with response of the findings owner and corrective action plan.
  • Any additional reports or schedules requested by the Country Compliance Manager.
DURATION AND PLACE OF PERFORMANCE:
Duration of Contract: 1.5 months from the commencement date, with the possibility of extension based on organisational needs and satisfactory performance.
 
Duty Station: HI India (Noida) office. 
 
Working hours: Working hours from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (Half-hour lunch break), 5 days in a week. No overtime is applicable. HI office remains closed during the declared govt. holidays.

ADMINISTRATIVE TERMS AND CONDITION:
  • The engagement shall be on a casual/temporary service basis and shall not constitute an employment contract with HI.
  • The Internal Audit Intern will be paid at the rate of INR 2,000-2500 per working day, in accordance with HI India policies. No additional payment is allowable. In case of any field visit requirements arises, HI travel policy will be applied.
  • Applicable Government Tax, GST and VAT (where relevant) shall be deducted at source as per prevailing laws and regulations.
  • Payment shall be made based on approved timesheets and satisfactory completion of assigned tasks.
  • The selected candidate must comply with all HI policies, including safeguarding, prevention of fraud and corruption, confidentiality, code of conduct, and data protection requirements.
  • All documents and information accessed during the assignment shall remain the property of HI and must be treated as strictly confidential.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Education: Minimum Graduation in Accounting / Finance / Business Administration
  • Professional: Chartered Accountancy Semi-Senior Article student (at least 1.5 Y of articleship) or Course completed or having proven experience of NGO audit.
  • Experience: At least 0-2 years of experience in Audit and Accounts
  • Communication: Good Inter-personal communication skills in both Hindi and English
  • Computer skills: Must be excellent in MS Excel, Word & E-mail communication, data analysis package
SKILLS AND ATTITUDES:
  • Sound understanding of accounting principles, financial controls, and audit procedures.
  • Ability to review financial records and supporting documentation with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of donor compliance requirements and NGO financial practices is desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and other office applications.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and report-writing skills.
  • Communicating with Impact
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
