Kalike is an associate organisation of Tata Trusts seeded in 2012. Kalike through its direct field engagement, strives to facilitate deep, large-scale, and long-term impact on the quality of life through the interventions in area of Early Childhood Development, Elementary Education, Skill development for Youths, Water and Sanitation, Agri-based Livelihood and Elderly Care. Besides facilitating interventions in partnership with the state governments and other NGOs/Institutions, Kalike plays a critical role in providing monitoring services and technical support to Trusts partners; incubating new innovations/strategies, acts as a knowledge hub and works towards scaling up programs for long-term impact.

About Robust Early Learning Initiative (RELI)
Early learning of children up to 8 years of age lays foundations for their future growth and learning. The importance of providing stimulating learning environments from the early years has been widely recognized in research, as have the high returns on investment for robust early learning.
Through this three-year RELI project, Kalike will support (a) the creation of the Early Learning Network of India (ELNI) comprising of professional organizations in the early learning domain; and (b) support partner organisations of Trusts with designing and implementing robust early learning programmes.

JOB DESCRIPTION OF LITERACY LEAD, RELI PROJECT

Position Purpose:
The Literacy Lead will lead early language and literacy work within the Robust Early Learning Initiative (RELI) project and will have 7-12 years of experience in Education (preferably language education).
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Lead the early language and literacy component of the RELI project in designing, implementation, and evaluation.
• Mentor partner organisations of Trusts with designing and implementing robust early learning programmes (in collaboration with the Numeracy Lead and the Project Lead).
• Provide support to the Kalike implementation team in their school intervention programs through regular mentoring, monitoring & supervision.
• Develop professional development offerings including an early literacy course.
• Contribute to building sectoral capacity by planning, designing, and conducting trainings/workshops/capacity-building programmes and providing mentoring support to partner organizations and Kalike team members.
• Carry out field visits to oversee the implementation of project activities.
• Ensure timely completion and reporting of project activities in coordination with the Project Lead and other team members.
• Oversee documentation of project activities in the form of reports, case studies, photos and videos.
Essential Skills and Knowledge:
• Domain expertise in early learning, specifically early language and literacy (school / university teaching experience desirable).
• Written proficiency and verbal communication skills in English.
• Proficiency in spoken Kannada and knowledge of written Kannada is desirable.
• Project Management skills, including team-management, report-writing, etc.
• Facilitation skills to conduct training and capacity-building workshops.
Education Qualifications and Experience
• Master’s or PhD degree in Education or Allied Social Sciences with 7-12 years of experience in Education. Demonstrated experience in working with Early
Learning or Early Literacy domains.
