About the Project:
A state-of-the-art burn centre is currently under construction in Varanasi, India, designed to transform the lives of burn victims, particularly women and children disproportionately affected by India’s 6-7 million annual burn cases. Led by Dr Subodh Kumar Singh, a dedicated plastic surgeon with 27 years of experience and over 50,000 reconstructive surgeries performed, this facility is being built to triple surgical capacity from 4,000 to over 15,000 burn surgeries annually, provide holistic, free, or subsidised treatment, and establish India’s first scalable training model in burn care. Supported by the Thompson Family Foundation, the centre will equip a new generation of doctors to reduce disability and mortality, integrating advanced medical technology with a mission to restore hope and dignity for underserved communities.
Role Overview
G.S. Memorial Trust is seeking a dynamic and highly accomplished Director – Fundraising to lead its capital campaign and long-term resource mobilisation strategy.
This is a leadership opportunity for a senior development professional capable of raising significant philanthropic support from Corporate CSR, High-Net-Worth Individuals (HNIs), Family Foundations, International Foundations, and Institutional Donors.
The successful candidate will build strategic partnerships, lead donor engagement, develop compelling funding proposals, and create a sustainable fundraising engine to support one of India's most ambitious healthcare initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Fundraising:
- Develop and execute a multi-year fundraising strategy for hospital construction, medical equipment, programmes, and institutional sustainability.
- Lead capital campaign fundraising with defined annual fundraising targets.
- Build and manage a robust donor pipeline across CSR companies, HNIs, family offices, philanthropic foundations, trusts, and international donors.
- Identify and pursue major gifts, naming opportunities, endowments, and strategic partnerships.
Business Development & Donor Acquisition:
- Cultivate relationships with CXOs, CSR Heads, philanthropists, trustees, family offices, and grant-making institutions.
- Lead donor meetings, presentations, proposal discussions, and negotiations.
- Convert prospects into long-term strategic funding partners.
- Represent the organisation at conferences, donor forums, CSR platforms, and philanthropic events.
Proposal Development & Donor Communications:
- Preparation of high-quality CSR proposals, grant applications, concept notes, presentations, budgets, and impact reports.
- Develop compelling communication material highlighting project impact and investment opportunities.
Leadership & Team Management:
- Build a high-performing fundraising and donor relations team.
- Establish fundraising systems, CRM processes, donor tracking, and performance dashboards.
- Work closely with Founder and leadership to ensure donor commitments are effectively delivered.
Strategic Partnerships:
- Build collaborations with hospitals, corporate partners, philanthropic institutions, medical associations, and international organisations.
- Identify innovative funding opportunities including cause marketing, fundraising events, and legacy giving.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Management, Social Work, Public Policy, Development Studies, Healthcare Management, or a related discipline.
- Additional certification in fundraising, CSR, philanthropy, or nonprofit management will be an advantage.
Experience & Competencies:
The ideal candidate should possess:
- 12–15+ years of progressive experience in fundraising, institutional partnerships, CSR engagement, or resource mobilisation within the nonprofit, healthcare, education, or development sector.
- Demonstrated experience in raising 10–15 crore or more annually through CSR partnerships, HNIs, foundations, and institutional donors.
- Proven experience leading large capital campaigns, hospital/infrastructure fundraising, or major philanthropic initiatives.
- Strong network among CSR leaders, corporate foundations, family offices, philanthropists, and grant-making organisations across India.
- Excellent proposal writing, donor presentation, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
- Experience managing high-value donor portfolios and multi-year partnerships.
- Ability to engage Boards, Trustees, senior corporate leaders, and philanthropists with confidence and credibility.
- Strong strategic thinking, leadership, and team-building capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; knowledge of Hindi will be an added advantage.
- Willingness to travel extensively across India for donor meetings and fundraising engagements.
Preferred Experience:
Candidates with experience in one or more of the following will be preferred:
- Healthcare or hospital fundraising.
- Capital campaigns for infrastructure projects.
- Medical institutions, cancer hospitals, children's hospitals, rehabilitation centres, or public health programmes.
- International philanthropy and grant management.
- Working with large CSR-funded programmes exceeding ?10 crore.
- Managing relationships with ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs), family foundations, and corporate leadership.
