South Kolkata Hamari Muskan (SKHM) is implementing a project in the Bowbazar red-light area to support adult women and young women from vulnerable communities in accessing safer livelihood and employment opportunities.

The project will support 50 adult women through alternative livelihood and enterprise development and 30 young women through job-readiness, digital literacy and skill-development pathways. The project also recognizes the psychosocial challenges, stigma and pressures faced by participants as they work towards greater independence and economic security.

Pickle, Jam & Jelly and Papad Making Trainer

South Kolkata Hamari Muskan (SKHM) is looking for a Food Processing & Production Trainer to work with adult women from vulnerable communities in the Bowbazar red-light area as part of a livelihood development programme.

The women have varying levels of experience and several have received previous training in livelihood skills. The trainer will be expected to assess their existing knowledge and build practical skills that can support home-based income generation and small-scale food enterprises.

Key responsibilities:

Conduct practical training in pickle making, jam and jelly preparation and papad making.
Assess participants' existing skills and adapt training according to their experience and learning needs.
Teach appropriate methods of preparation, hygiene, food safety, storage and preservation.
Guide participants on consistency, quality, presentation and basic production standards.
Help women understand practical aspects of small-scale production that can support home-based income generation.
Maintain regularity and punctuality in conducting training sessions.
Be patient and supportive when working with women with different levels of literacy, confidence and prior experience.
Be willing to make occasional home visits where required to support women developing home-based livelihood options.
Work respectfully within the Bowbazar red-light area and demonstrate sensitivity towards the diverse circumstances and lived experiences of the women.
Maintain a supportive and non-judgmental approach when working with women who may have experienced trauma, stigma, violence or other difficult life circumstances.
Coordinate with the SKHM team regarding participants' progress, attendance and training needs.

Requirements:

Strong practical knowledge and experience in pickle, jam and jelly and papad making.
Prior experience as a trainer is preferred.
Knowledge of basic food hygiene, safety, preservation and storage is essential.
Experience working with women from disadvantaged or vulnerable communities will be an advantage.
Patience, empathy and the ability to work with participants with different learning abilities and educational backgrounds.
Reliability, punctuality and willingness to work in a community-based setting.
Willingness to make occasional home visits as part of the livelihood support process.

Location: Bowbazar, Kolkata
Engagement: Part-time / consultant basis / minimum twice a week
