Monitoring and Evidence Lead
Role Purpose: The Monitoring and Evidence Lead will strengthen Aangan’s ability to generate credible, timely and useful evidence across its programmes, with Safety Studio as a key priority. The role will ensure that monitoring goes beyond counting activities to show what is changing, for whom, why, and what the organisation should do differently. The role will lead a small monitoring team and work closely with programme, impact, technology and leadership teams.
Location: Delhi / Kolkatta / Mumbai (Need-based travel to program locations)
Reporting To: Program Director – Safety Studio
Key Responsibilities:
1. Build strong monitoring systems
• Develop and refine logframes, results frameworks, indicators, monitoring plans and reporting systems
• Translate programme outcomes into clear, measurable indicators and definitions.
• Ensure monitoring captures both implementation quality and meaningful change, not just activity counts.
2. Generate evidence and tell the story behind the numbers
• Collect, analyse and triangulate quantitative and qualitative data to understand trends, gaps and emerging outcomes.
• Bring together MIS, Kobo, LMS and field/qualitative evidence to answer programme questions.
• Ensure evidence shows not only the numbers, but the stories and experiences behind them—what changed, how it changed and what it means for girls and programmes.
• Produce clear evidence for programme decisions, donor reporting, proposals and organisational learning.
3. Strengthen data quality
• Establish data-quality standards, verification processes and regular checks for missing, inconsistent, duplicate or unusual data.
• Conduct spot checks and source verification and identify the reasons behind data gaps or discrepancies.
4. Use technology to make monitoring smarter
• Design and manage digital data-collection tools, including KoboToolbox/XLSForm, with strong logic, validation and quality controls.
• Use dashboards, OCR, automation and APIs where useful to improve data flow.
• Develop decision-oriented dashboards using tools such as Power BI, Looker/Data Studio or equivalent.
5. Turn monitoring into learning and action
• Lead regular monitoring and learning reviews with programme teams.
• Identify implementation bottlenecks, emerging risks and opportunities for improvement.
• Turn findings into clear actions and track whether those actions are taken. Ask: What is happening? Why? What does the evidence tell us?
What should we change?
6. Lead and build capability
• Manage and mentor the monitoring team and strengthen monitoring skills across programme teams.
• Work closely with the Programmer/LMS team to ensure the right data is captured and usable for monitoring, without duplicating technology responsibilities.
• Work with external partners/consultants where required and quality-check their outputs.
What We Are Looking For
• 8–12 years of experience in monitoring, evaluation, research, programme quality or data analytics.
• Strong understanding of logframes, results frameworks, indicators and measurement systems.
• Hands-on experience with KoboToolbox / XLSForm, MIS, Excel and dashboards/BI tools.
• Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills, including the ability to connect data with field realities and stories.
• Experience with data quality, verification and reporting.
• Comfort with AI, automation, OCR, APIs and emerging digital tools, with the ability to assess when they are genuinely useful.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to turn data into clear insights and decisions.
• Experience managing or mentoring a small team.

We are looking for someone who is both a strong monitoring professional and a curious technologist—someone who can move comfortably from a programme question, to a Kobo form, to a dataset, to a dashboard, to the story behind the numbers, and ultimately to a better programme decision. Someone who loves to be in the fields to gather data firsthand.
