YRGMERF is anticipating a project to strengthen the Urban Ecosystem Against Future Disease Threats by implementing a framework for urban-peri-urban coordination. This project if commissioned will require a team of below positions to support the coordination, implementation and monitoring of several components.
Key Responsibilities
The Surveillance Officer will be responsible for supporting the project activities in the designated municipal corporation and peri-urban areas, coordination with stakeholders. Will report to State Manager based at Guwahati. Will work closely with other team members.
Project Implementation Support
- Will be responsible to ensure that the proposed activities are considering current disease patterns as well as requirements of the State and Disease health department.
- Ensures that the staff are well trained on use of data for program implementation and documentation.
- Supports in designing various tools for secondary information collection, analysis and use in the project.
Urban and Peri-urban Coordination Support
- Analyses the disease surveillance systems in place both the urban and peri-urban areas of the designated project geographies. What are the contributing factors and their association with disease frequency, severity and spill over. Prepare reports on these patterns including the factors associated with previous outbreaks.
- Supports in preparing report on the preparedness of health facilities, staff capacity to address any spill-over or outbreaks in future. What are the key resources that can be established within the project resources to provide on the job skilling.
- Supports in preparation of other stakeholders who could contribute in early reporting using existing IDSP tools including those in private sector. Helps in preparation of a landscaping report on current practices and how those can be aligned with One Health activities.
- Supports in documentation of various project activities related to One Health, outbreak preparedness by discussing with the stakeholders and participants.
- Helps in understanding the peri-urban vulnerability pattern to disease outbreak in the designated area and facilitates preparation of a city action plan that guides several activities under the project as well as through other resources.
- Helps in understanding current practices in Info-demic management, how those practices have been successful in managing better surveillance and management of outbreaks in both urban and peri-urban zones.

- Ensure that government approved tools and techniques are scaled up and widely practiced.
- Provides support in implementing innovations in the project

Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s in Public Health or Epidemiology or Bio-statistics with minimum 5 years' experience in NUHM, Urban Health Project, Disease Surveillance, One Health Activities, National Vector Borne Control Program. Preference will be given to local candidates who understands and have worked in Karnataka Health Systems.
