POSITION ROLE
The Accountant will report to the Senior Accountant and support the accounting and financial processing requirements of ChildFund India. The position will be based in Delhi; however, the role will support review, booking, posting and documentation of expenses and financial transactions across locations, grants, projects, functions and offices, as allocated by the Line Manager and based on operational requirements. The role will also support bank reconciliation and related finance processes in line with ChildFund India policies, donor requirements and applicable statutory compliances. Flexible to travel to field/remote locations, whenever required.
 
Remain alert and responsive to any safeguarding risks; acquire and maintain the relevant knowledge and skills necessary to promote strong safeguarding practices; understand and adhere to ChildFund India’s Safeguarding Policy and Procedures; and conduct yourself at all times in a manner consistent with ChildFund India’s safeguarding principles and standards.
 
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Book keeping, Expense Review and Posting
  • Ensure that all financial transactions are supported by appropriate and complete documents in compliance with ChildFund India policies, procedures, donor terms and applicable statutory requirements.
  • Verify supporting documents as per the payment checklist before processing and posting entries.
  • Review, book and post accurate accounting entries for expenses and financial transactions across locations, grants, projects, functions and offices, as assigned by the Line Manager.
  • Support the processing of payments within the prescribed timelines and ensure proper documentation for audit trail purposes.
  • Ensure accurate deduction of tax wherever applicable and support timely statutory payments and returns.
  • Maintain relevant bank/payment registers and ensure finance records are complete, organized and audit-ready.
  • Support field/admin coordinators and other internal stakeholders by reviewing accounting entries and posting them as required.
  • Coordinate with the Senior Accountant for month-end closing, expense review and any required reclassification or correction entries.
Bank Reconciliation and Month-end Support
  • Prepare bank reconciliation statements for assigned bank accounts within the agreed monthly timelines.
  • Follow up on unreconciled items, pending entries and supporting documentation to ensure timely closure.
  • Support month-end reporting, closure schedules and other finance-related reconciliations as required.
Reporting, Audit and Compliance Support
  • Support preparation of donor reports, budget versus actual reports and other finance schedules, wherever required by the Senior Accountant/Finance team.
  • Coordinate with internal and external audit teams to ensure timely sharing of documents and smooth completion of statutory, donor, global and assurance audits.
  • Support preparation of statutory audit requirements and other compliance-related documentation.
  • Review and support compliance requirements relating to FCRA, Income Tax, PF, PT and other applicable regulations, under the guidance of the Senior Accountant/Finance leadership.
  • Ensure adherence to accounting manuals, finance SOPs and prevalent accounting practices.
  • Undertake any other finance/accounting responsibilities assigned by the Line Manager
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION
Education: Bachelors in Accounts, Finance or Commerce.
 
Work Experience: Minimum 4 years of working experience in accounting, preferably in the development sector and/or an international organization.
 
Job Knowledge: Working knowledge of accounting systems, bank reconciliations, statutory deductions and documentation requirements. Good understanding of finance processes, audit requirements and accounting controls. Strong attention to detail, timeliness, documentation discipline and ability to coordinate with multiple internal stakeholders.

EVALUATION AND SELECTION CRITERIA
Step 1: HR Pre-Screening:All Job Applications received will be collated by HR and preliminary screening will be conducted based on the minimum education and experience requirements mentioned above. The Applicants that do not meet the education and experience criteria will not be considered further for the selection process. All the qualified applications will be handed over by HR to the Selection Panel.
 
Step 2: Qualified applications will be further reviewed by the Selection Panel. The Selection Panel will assess and rank all the applications based on the following factors for a maximum of 100 points:

NGO Accounting Work Experience (70 points)
 
Step 3: Based on the written test assessment, applications will be further shortlisted for Step 3 i.e. Interview. The applications will be evaluated by the Selection Panel for the final selection, based on the following evaluation factors for a maximum of 100 points.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary starts at INR 6,46,747 per annum plus benefits, with scope for consideration for adjustment in line with the experience, skills, and knowledge the selected candidate brings.
