Under the SAHAS 2.0 Project, India HIV/AIDS Alliance provides overall technical guidance, programme leadership, capacity building, monitoring and evaluation support, and quality assurance. Rajmala Welfare Society (RWS) is responsible for implementing project activities across the assigned districts of Delhi, working in close coordination with Alliance India to deliver high-quality, community-led interventions for transgender persons.

About SAHAS 2.0 Project
SAHAS 2.0 is a comprehensive community-based programme focused on improving the quality of life of transgender persons by strengthening access to healthcare, gender-affirming care, social protection schemes, crisis response services, education, livelihood opportunities, and community systems. The project aims to build resilient transgender communities while ensuring dignity, equality, and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities
The Peer Educator will support the project in promoting the health, well-being, and rights of transgender, hijra, and gender diverse (TGH) communities through community outreach, awareness, and service linkages. The role includes maintaining close contact with the community and sharing information on health issues such as HIV, STIs, TB, mental health, and non-communicable diseases, mobilizing community members for project activities, and facilitating access to healthcare services, Gender Affirmation Care (GAC), and government social protection and welfare schemes. The Peer Educator will also assist in outreach activities, support follow-ups for referrals, maintain basic records, and ensure confidentiality and respect for all community members.

Specific Responsibilities:
1.Building rapport with transgender, hijra, and gender diverse (TGH) communities and conduct outreach through hotspots, social media, dating apps, and other platforms to ensure effective engagement and wider reach in the given geography under Project SAHAS.
2. Disseminate key messages and provide basic, peer-led information on programme services, focusing on holistic health, gender identity, sexuality, mental health, Gender Affirming Care (GAC), and social entitlements and welfare measures.
3. Along with SAHAS Community workers, raise awareness on communicable and non-communicable diseases (including HIV/STIs, TB, Hepatitis, and NCDs), promoting prevention, risk reduction, early screening, and informed health-seeking behaviour.
4. Distribute IEC materials, motivate community members to access services, and facilitate linkages and referrals to appropriate health, psychosocial, and social support services.
5. Provide basic psychosocial support, identify individuals needing advanced care, and refer to SAHAS community workers for further support.
6. Maintain simple documentation of outreach, referrals, and community interactions, ensuring confidentiality, ethical practices, and alignment with role expectations.
7. Participate in outreach activities, health camps, and entitlement drives, and support overall project objectives as guided by the reporting supervisor.
Education
8. Literacy in the local language, with some formal education up to 8th class preferred.
9. Basic knowledge of mobile phones, social media, and community messaging apps.
10. Member of the transgender, hijra, or gender diverse (TGH) community.

Essential Requirements
1. Willingness to do field outreach, visit hotspots, and participate in project activities.
2. Basic understanding and knowledge about HIV, STIs, TB, mental health, NCDs, Gender Affirmation Care (GAC) and overall transgender health & rights
3. Should have a good rapport with diverse group of members from the transgender community.

Desirable qualities/experience/skills:
1. Actively engage with the community at the grassroots level through hotspot visits, social media, and other outreach activities.
2. Provide basic first-level counselling to community members and connect them with the Drop-In Centre (DIC).
3. Able to read, write, and communicate in local language.
4. Candidates with similar experience working closely with the community will be given preference.
5. Willing to work at any location within the assigned area, eager to learn new things, and flexible with working hours.
