About the Organisation
The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to our mission of saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries. We work at the invitation of governments to support them and the private sector to create and sustain high-quality health systems.
CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Over the following two decades, CHAI has expanded its focus. Today, along with HIV, we work in conjunction with our partners to prevent and treat infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. Our work has also expanded into cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and other non-communicable diseases, and we work to accelerate the rollout of lifesaving vaccines, reduce maternal and child mortality, combat chronic malnutrition, and increase access to assistive technology. We are investing in horizontal approaches to strengthen health systems through programs in human resources for health, digital health, and health financing. With each new and innovative program, our strategy is grounded in maximizing sustainable impact at scale, ensuring that governments lead the solutions, that programs are designed to scale nationally, and learnings are shared globally.
At CHAI, our people are our greatest asset, and none of this work would be possible without their talent, time, dedication and passion for our mission and values. We are a highly diverse team of enthusiastic individuals across 40 countries with a broad range of skillsets and life experiences. CHAI is deeply grounded in the countries we work in, with majority of our staff based in program countries.
WJCF is an Indian not-for-profit entity, registered under Section 8 of the Indian Companies Act 2013, and has an affiliation agreement with the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI). Our mission is to save lives and improve health outcomes in the country by enabling the government and private sector to strengthen and sustain quality health systems. WJCF has partnered with the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and state health departments since 2007, providing technical and operational support across key health priorities, including infectious diseases (COVID-19, hepatitis, HIV, TB, vector-borne diseases), non-communicable diseases (cervical cancer, diabetes, sickle cell disease), maternal and child health (anaemia, immunisation, diarrhoea, pneumonia), sexual and reproductive health, health insurance and digital health (AB PM-JAY, ABDM), oxygen and hypoxemia management, safe drinking water, and climate and health. About the Assignment
WJCF is implementing “Expanding TPT in the Private Sector at the Patient’s Doorstep” in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), Gujarat. As part of this project, WJCF has proposed to leverage government-owned ultraportable X-ray machines to deliver free doorstep CXR services to household contacts (HHCs) of index TB patients in the private sector. The Radiographer will be a shared resource between the District Tb Cell (DTC) AMC and the WJCF project: conducting Active Case Finding (ACF) activities for the DTC on designated days, and delivering doorstep CXR services to project HHCs on remaining days, as per a jointly prepared monthly Advanced Tour Plan (ATP).
Key Responsibilities
X-ray Operations and Service Delivery
- Operate ultraportable X-ray machine for doorstep CXR screening of HHCs of private sector index TB patients, travelling to beneficiary homes or assigned locations as per the monthly ATP schedule.
- Conduct Active Case Finding (ACF) activities for the DTC (AMC) on designated days, including field camps and facility-based screening, as agreed in the monthly ATP.
- Handle all pre-procedure steps: verify beneficiary identity, explain the CXR procedure, address patient queries, ensure correct positioning, and apply radiation safety protocols including use of lead aprons and AERB-prescribed safeguards.
- Share results with the Medical Officer or DTC as per the agreed reporting protocol; flag any imaging findings suggestive of active TB to the Field Officer and DTC immediately.
- Transport the ultraportable X-ray unit, safely to and from camp locations and the base facility; take full responsibility for maintenance, safekeeping, and security of the equipment.
Equipment Maintenance and AERB Compliance
- Ensure the X-ray machine and accessories are always in good working condition and report any malfunction or damage to the District Lead and DTC immediately.
- Adhere strictly to all AERB (Atomic Energy Regulatory Board) guidelines on radiation protection, equipment handling, and personnel safety; maintain a valid TLD (Thermoluminescent Dosimeter) badge and submit for periodic reading as required.
- Coordinate with relevant stakeholders for Annualized Maintenance Contract (AMC) servicing and any corrective or preventive maintenance required on the equipment.
Data Recording and Reporting
- Document all CXR procedures in the project’s data system and the DTC’s records as applicable; ensure individual beneficiary data (name, age, address, image reference, result) is accurately recorded and linked to Nikshay where relevant.
- Develop the Monthly Activity Report, capturing X-ray machine utilisation, number of HHCs screened at doorstep, number of ACF camp beneficiaries, deviations from the ATP, and challenges encountered during the month.
- Participate in joint WJCF–DTC review sessions; share field observations and flag operational challenges for resolution.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient Protected Health Information (PHI) and project data in accordance with data protection standards.
Qualifications and Experience
Required
- Diploma or Degree in Medical Radiology and Imaging Technology from a government-recognised institute; minimum 18 months of hands-on experience in a clinical or field radiology setting.
- Registered with the relevant state/national radiology authority; must hold or be eligible for a TLD (Thermoluminescent Dosimeter) badge as required by AERB guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to operate portable or ultraportable X-ray equipment independently in field or camp settings; prior ACF camp experience is a strong advantage.
- Knowledge of AERB radiation protection guidelines and safe X-ray equipment handling protocols; committed to strict compliance in field conditions.
- Good documentation skills; proficiency in computer use and relevant imaging/data software; comfort with smartphone-based reporting.
- Fluency in Gujarati; working proficiency in Hindi; basic English literacy required for documentation and reporting.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively within and across AMC (approximately 25 days per month for the project operational period); own conveyance preferred.
- Physical fitness to carry the ultraportable X-ray unit and accessories to field locations; ability to work in varied outdoor and clinical environments.
Preferred / Good to Have
- Prior experience operating ultraportable or handheld X-ray machines; familiarity with CAD (Computer Assisted Diagnostics) software and PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) is a strong advantage.
- Experience in MDU (Mobile Diagnostic Unit) operations or government ACF/TB screening camp settings.
- Valid TLD badge already held, please mention during application and first interview so procurement can be coordinated accordingly if not already held.
- Familiarity with NTEP protocols, TB diagnostic algorithms, and DTC coordination workflows.
