Inviting professionals from the field of Nutrition and a passion to serve rural and underserved areas to work with Basic Healthcare Services, as Lead – Nutrition

Basic Healthcare Services (BHS) is a not-for-profit organization with a vision of a world where marginalized and vulnerable communities lead a healthy life with dignity. The organization runs a network of AMRIT Clinics that provide high-quality and low-cost primary health care to rural and tribal communities in south Rajasthan. Six such clinics serve a population of nearly 100,000, approximately 90% of which is tribal. BHS also runs phulwaris (daycare centres for children under 5) that provide a safe environment, nutritious food, and learning and play to children from tribal communities; 18 phulwaris enroll nearly 400 children. To improve nutritional status of tribal communities, BHS works with other organizations to improve availability of nutritious foods at the household level. BHS is a leading voice on primary healthcare in India and is also partnering in two ICMR led implementation research studies, aimed at strengthening the public health systems. Strengthening nutrition is a major component of the work that BHS does, and includes a diverse set of interventions – day care centres for young children, improving food availability at the household level, and nutrition support for Tuberculosis and children with Severe Acute Malnutrition at the AMRIT Clinics. To anchor and lead these interventions, BHS invites applications for the position of Lead – Nutrition.
This is a senior position, and Lead – Nutrition will work closely with the senior management. She/ he will have the following Job responsibilities:
- Supervise and support the phulwaris, together with the nutritionists and health workers
- Expand the number as well as the scope of work of the phulwaris
- Supervise and support program for nutrition support for Tuberculosis and for severely malnourished children
- Develop and implement strategies for nutrition support for other vulnerable groups, such as pregnant women, and people with diabetes.
- Supervise, support interventions for improving household food availability, including kitchen gardens, millet cultivation, backyard poultry
- Analyze, document, disseminate progress of the different nutrition interventions; expand their scope across larger areas
- Represent the organization in external forums
Qualifications and experience:
Masters in Home Sciences with major in Nutrition/ Masters in Public Health Nutrition/ Social Work with concentration in public health/nutrition. Candidates with minimum of 5 years’ experience in community based programs in nutrition will be considered
